A land of rocks, castles and caves
The Eagle’s Nests Route
Guided tours of the castles in Mirów, Bobolice, Rocks of Mirów, the deep cave and castle in Ogrodzieniec.
Travelling the great Eagles Nests Route connecting the castles of the Jura. The route leads around the beautiful limestone hills, offering excellent views.
Castle in Mirów
Built in the fourteenth century, at the direction of Kasimir the Great, this castle has a steep contour, round tower and mysterious atmosphere. The castle is located on a hill and was built in place of older wooden fortifications. To the traditional limestone were added the bodies of dead animals. In terms of architecture it is one of the most interesting castles of the Jura. The higher part of castle is exactly matched to the shape of the rock, and the western part of this recalls the prow of a ship.
The castle remembers the biggest wars, the battles of knights and robbers.
Castle in Bobolice
Twin to Mirowski Castle, founded in the fourteenth century as a royal castle. In the years 1370-91 in the fiefdom of Wladyslaw of Opole, it later belonged to the families Kreza, Myszkowski, and Mięciński. The castle was destroyed during the Swedish "deluge" in 1657, and in 1683 when Jan III Sobieski stopped here en route to Vienna, the castle was already a ruin. It is located 2 km east of Mirów. Situated on top of the acute elevation, (318m), delights a soaring and predatory silhouette. In its interior you can enjoy amazing views.
According to legend the two castles are connected by an underground tunnel.
Deep Cave
Deep Cave exploration, (the whole group will receive helmets and torches). We reach with a guide into the heart of the Jura and the underground. A length of 187 meters and a small depth allows a safe walk in the cave’s chasms and a treasure hunt. On the walls we will observe bats and numerous infiltrations.
Castle in Ogrodzieniec
"Older people say that the Castle in Ogrodzieniec, is at night haunted by a big black dog that pulls a three metre long, rattling chain. That mysterious animal our grandfathers and fathers saw even before the First World War. They remembered that at night any horse would not dare to go the castle gate, although the outer courtyard smelled of lush, fresh grass... "
This and many other legends about one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Europe, with the nickname "Little Wawel", will be told by a real expert and enthusiast of this unique building. A beautiful view of many turrets and towers, merging into the rock walls will surprise you with its charm and extraordinary atmosphere!
Visiting the Castle also poses many pleasures. From the mysterious ruin’s entrance by the drawbridge to the middle of castle where there is a courtyard from the fifteenth century, hiding a lot of secrets from the past. This is an extraordinary moment when the loss of the sense of the present and our imagination take us into the distant days of brave knights, beautiful dresses and wonderful horses.
