Pilcza Castle in Smolen, Zegarowe Rocks, Bisnik Rock

Pilcza Castle in Smolen is situated in a nature reserve. The slopes of the hill on top of which the fortress is situated are covered with beech, ridge and larch trees. Between Smolen (Silesian Voivodeship) and Domaniewice (Lesser Poland Voivodeship) lies the unusually charming Wodacej Valley, surrounded by numerous limestone outliers. The most characteristic places of the valley are: Zegarowe Rocks (with Zegarowa Cave and Jasna Cave), Bisnik Rock (with Bisnik Cave and Psia Cave), Grodzisko Panskie (the highest of the rocks, 480 m above sea level) and Grodzisko Chlopskie. At the foot of Zegarowe Rocks there is one of the most famous caves in the Smolensk-Niegowonice range, called Zegarowa Cave. Three openings lead to its interior. The main (western) corridor leads into a spacious 20 m long chamber. According to a legend related to its name [‘zegar’ in Polish is a clock], on Midsummer and Christmas nights a clock strikes hours in the cave.
