Departure
Jasna Góora - a majestic place with a famous monastery which towers over the city of Czestochowa and attracts pilgrims from all over the country and remote corners of the world like a magnet. Originally, the name Jasna Gora was associated with white, treeless limestone peaks. The term Jasna Gora (Clarus Mons) first appeared in a document from 1388. This name was given to the hill by the Pauline monks who came from Hungary, where their mother monastery of St. Lawrence was called: In Claro Monte Budensi (on Jasna Góra in Buda). The foundation of the Pauline Monastery on Jasna Gora is linked to Louis of Anjou, King of Hungary and Poland (1370-1382), and his relative Prince Wladyslaw Opolczyk. At their request, in June 1382 a group of several Pauline monks arrived in Czestochowa, taking possession of the Jasna Gora hill together with the wooden church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The most precious treasure and secret of Jasna Gora was and is the Picture of Our Lady, called Our Lady of Jasna Gora or Czestochowa. This is the magnet that attracts pilgrims from all over the world who offer their secrets, requests, worries and desires to Our Lady in prayer.
